Skylemar Blog 2026

Woof!

How great it is to be a dog at Camp Skylemar.  You’re lavished with love, and underneath the picnic tables is a Disneyland of scraps.  You might just say Skylemar is dog heaven here on earth.

There’s Slugger, Skylemar’s most popular four-legged friend.  He’s a French Bulldog who just can’t get enough balls.  Any size, any type.  Even pictures of balls get him excited.  The tennis court is his Shangri-La, and he can’t decide which yellow one to chase first.  But those playing football or soccer must beware – any inflated ball he comes across will soon be deflated.

Moose, our all-black Newfoundland is the oldest and wisest.  The boys say she’s “chill”.  One day she was barking up a tree, and we couldn’t imagine what animal had her attention.  A closer look found half of a hotdog in a bun on the lowest branch.  We’ll never know exactly how or why it got there.

Moxie, our Newfoundland with the white paws, is in the “terrible twos” phase.  She’s another one who would love to get into the action of whatever the kids are playing, so she has her own camp counselor named Allison.

Finn is our jolly, gentle and fun-loving Golden Retriever.  He spends most of the day under the desk in The Bunker (the programming office) and is always happy for attention.

Trix, the little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, is sweet and is very willing to be held.  However, she steals items from the people she likes (shoes, shirts, bags – whatever she can reach) and hides them away.  It’s fun to watch her try and scurry away someone’s boot or lacrosse glove.

Delilah lives with Boating Director Gallo, so she spends most of her time at the lake.  She’s a well-behaved, gentle mixed breed, who follows Gallo wherever he goes.

Chiquenia belongs to Junior the Chef and stays at his place all day.  She’s an independent Chihuahua, and the little guys are happy to catch a glimpse of her.  Junior’s a tall, strong man, and Chiquenia is a teeny tiny thing – quite a combo.

Ruby is the star of our show.  She’s a perfectly trained Golden Doodle who belongs to Lexie and Mitch.  She knows every command perfectly, responds to hand signals, and is quite impressive with agility stunts.  Like any good role model, Ruby is the one that we hope influences the rest of the pack.

What’s most impressive about all of these dogs is how they consider everyone at Skylemar as their family.  But if you’re not a camper or counselor, you’re greeted by a whole lot of barking.
