The explosion of love just had to be felt from coast to coast!  That’s what happens when several hundred of the greatest parents in the whole wide world come to Camp Skylemar!

A few things we know for sure: 

First, the best part of being apart is getting together again.

Second, every parent deserves to feel the joy of a child leaping into their arms after not seeing each other for a while.

Third, every Skylemar camper has won the parent lottery.  No boy could ever be more loved.

Of course, not all parents were able to make it.  And some boys declined a visitor because it’s just too emotional.  All that just meant that the love had to travel just a little father to touch those we adore and miss.

Thank you to those who were able to make the journey.  The boys and counselors were proud to show off on the fields, courts and lake.  We were grateful that the weather was comfortable, and the rain held out until the day’s end. 

It’s an exhausting day, and in some ways, it was totally fine to postpone the Carnival due to rain.  Instead, we played an exciting game of Flamingo Bingo.  It’s like the regular game at first, but after you holler “bingo” you pick a stunt for your counselor to perform.  If he does the stunt, the whole Bunk gets a prize.  Sample stunts:  pantomime the National Anthem, sing your favorite Back Street Boys song, dance the worm, recite the ABC’s backwards and so forth.

We split up for Movie Night into three locations.  It was BYOC (bring your own candy), and many fell asleep right on the floor. 

It’s quiet on the Bunkline, far earlier than usual. Everyone’s wiped out from a big day.   Shep just finished saying his “goodnights” to 30 cabins, as he does every single night.  This Blog writer will try and get just a little sleep too.
