Back and forth we go – Day 1 saw Red jump in front, followed by an afternoon Gray comeback and a tie by nightfall.  By the end of Day 2, Red had again seized control….until the next morning (Day 3) when Gray stormed back and  took command at the midpoint.  Then yesterday afternoon, Red answered with a dominant PM session of their own and took back the lead, although by just a single point as we all retired for the night.  

Today brought more of the same.  Both teams have shown quite a knack for coming back from behind, and Gray kept the pattern going. After they drew even with a win in Freshmen Waterfront, their Sophomores served up a win in Tennis.  Red bounced back with a 6-2 win in Tigers lacrosse, but over at Sky II, Gray did just enough to hold on in a well-played 2-1 showdown in Seniors Soccer. The Cubs/Lions displayed some future NFL moves on both fields.  Red won on the Bunkline, Gray on the Rec Hall field,  to split the point. Red outlasted Gray in a dramatic 8-7 Juniors win on the Fred Pierce Field, but then Gray Stars won both Golf and Bocce, and recaptured the lead.  All broke for lunch and the first of two Songs and Cheers practices today in preparation for this evening’s most important night activity of Color War.

Gray didn’t even have a chance to sit on the lead, as this time Red came out of the break fired up to take it back.  And that they did.  Wins in Tigers Tennis, Freshmen Baseball and both Seniors Hoops games once again put them ahead.  Their Stars won the first of 3 Stars Hockey games, but Gray rallied to win Games 2 and 3 and stop Red’s run.  Then Gray’s littlest guys won both Soccer games down on the Snow Field to keep them right in the thick of it, just a point back as we headed to Songs and Cheers.

Eight Points ….8 very BIG points.  That’s what was at stake tonight when each team took the stage to perform a set of 6 musical numbers, each with its own assigned point values in Color War’s annual Songs and Cheers Competition.  The presentation included a Team Cheer, Camp Cheer, Team Fight Song, Old Camp Song, Original Camp Song and Production Number. The team leaders have been holed up for days behind the scenes writing material and putting their song sets together, then had 6 rehearsals to get their teams ready for tonight.  And that they did. Both teams sung their hearts out — voices strained by Color War’s excitement over the last 4 days somehow blended in “perfect” harmony.   Judges Barney, Suzie and DMan had the toughest job of all, and their decision handed to Shep quieted the anxious crowd – Gray wins the night 4 ½ – 3 ½.

Day 4 is in the books. One more morning of athletic contests ahead before tomorrow’s traditional, climactic afternoon closer…TUGS of WAR!

How could it be any closer?  It can’t.  Inconceivably, the score is tied… dead even!  Rarely, if ever, would this seem possible.  Looks like we’re headed for an epic finish!
