A Day of Thanks
There was a whole lot of love in the warm Skylemar air on this August 7. Counselors and campers had activities as usual, but this time it was just a little more playful. Everyone was appreciative and truly enjoyed being together.
This was the last full day of the 2026 season, and we savored every minute.
Counselors took no periods off — but instead filled the courts and fields right alongside those who were many years younger. Playing together is what keeps our mind off of leaving the ones we care so much about. You know the feeling.
Over 300 notes of gratitude were written at the Appreciation Station. These notes are similar to Cool2Care shout-outs, but instead someone is thanked for something specific (or as general as “thank you for being a good friend”). The writer then finishes the sentence that starts with “I will try and show my appreciation by….” The guys are really thoughtful with this, and recipients will receive them after camp.
The Final Banquet was one to remember. The Pavilion was spruced up with decorations, and the meal was especially delicious. Fresh corn on the cob, barbecued chicken, juicy burgers, Caesar salad and brownie sundaes. There were impressive speeches presented by a selected New Camper (Asher K), New Counselor (Amai), Old Camper (Brayden C) and Old Counselor (Milly). Counselor Amai was especially touching when he said, “I wish I had known about Skylemar when I was a kid.”
Finally, it was the time we’ve been waiting for all summer…”Retrospect”. That’s the spectacular end-of-season show that a team of six videographers and photographers, along with producer Bruce, have worked on for two months. Not only is the show incredible, but to be in a room with hundreds of guys cheering and laughing together in friendship is one of those things that AI can never duplicate. Simply the best.
It was also a night of songs, special awards and plenty of tears. In just a few short hours we’ll be parting for a very long time – 323 days.
As sad as tomorrow morning will be, having a wonderful family reunion on the other end will make for a happy afternoon.
Thank you for sharing your amazing young man with us this summer. We are the lucky ones.
