Parent Tour Question #11: What do you do when it rains?
We step it up and turn it ON!
Thanks to Cory, Barney, Suzie, Lucas and the talented Senior Staff the show does go on!
Morning activities took place at Sky II in the Gym and Lodge. In the gym the little guys had an impromptu dance party, which was really adorable. These guys know the moves! Everyone else did a three-game rotation of Flinch Ball, Eyeball Tag and Israeli Soccer. Meanwhile, the older kids were in the Lodge with ping pong, foosball and pool. After an hour, we swapped locations.
After lunch (with birthday parties for Oliver D, Zay-Zay and Sam W) it was time for Flamingo Bunko Bingo. That’s a Skylemized version of the traditional game. It was a tropical theme, with Flamingo Barney and Lucas the Captain as MC’s. The game is played, someone yells “Bunko Bingo” and the stage curtain opens. Out into the crowd pour the JC’s, dressed in crazy costumes, squirting water guns, blowing whistles and sounding cowbells. The entire room cheers as the winner and his cabin head up front. A “stunt card” is selected and the group is assigned a skit to perform. For example, one card read, “Act out the song Taps”. Another said, “Eat an ice cream sundae under water”. One said, “Show us a day in the life of Moose the dog”. If you completed the task, your bunk wins a prize. There were sunglasses, whoopee cushions, light-up balls and other toys that are important to young men.
We were excited to welcome new friends to Skylemar, coming today for the second half of camp. The rain made greetings difficult, so we’ll make it up to them with an extra-welcoming morning. When those flying from Baltimore finally arrived as we finished dinner, the whole camp erupted in cheers and gave a standing ovation. This group of ten were stuck for nearly three hours in the plane on the tarmac because of thunder storms. That’s a LONG time.
New friends plus a whole lotta rain was the best reason to have our Annual Ice Cream Buffet. It’s make-your-own-sundaes with every topping you can think of. Delicious!
Campfire for Evening Activity, but the Ring of Champions was terribly wet. Instead, we had an indoor fire in the Rec Hall. Bunk 1 did a really funny invisible bench skit. The “Ginger Song” is really fun too – ask your son how it goes. Sam played the guitar and we all sang along to “Sweet Caroline”, Barney did a hysterical doctor skit and Adventure Man came with some important lessons.
So glad our new friends are here safely. Can’t wait for them to jump right in tomorrow.
