The Skylemar WARRIORS. They give their heart, their soul, their body, their mind.
It’s for honor, glory and carrying the torch for those who will one day follow in their footsteps. They fight till the bitter end and never, ever, give up.
Chests are bared to intimidate the others. Muscles bulge, glistening with sunscreen. They are fueled by only water, and perhaps a banana popsicle.
These dedicated soldiers are the players of 10U STEAL THE BACON.
120 competitors come from far and wide (5 camps) to Skylemar’s infamous Bacon Plex. There the game is played, five players per side, each with a number. The referee calls a number and the two opponents race out and try to "steal the bacon" (aka a tennis ball). If you get back to your line without being tagged, it’s two points. If you tag the other opponent with the ball, your team gets one point.
Once in a while the referee calls out “SOOIE!” which means all but one player comes out, and when you get the ball you can toss it to your teammate across the line.
Game goes to 15.
To say that the men of STB take the game seriously is an understatement. You see, they must win, because we’ve been champions for nearly a decade.
This year’s tourney was played in the sweltering heat. A misting station was set up under the tent, and the nurses were pushing cups of water. Even the many spectators, the whole rest of camp, were dripping with sweat.
It was as if the hot sun empowered them to be their very best. Or maybe it was the outstanding coaching by Kalvar & Rome, plus all their talented assistants. They brought home that bacon and we sure are proud.
Heard it today...
When things didn't go so well for one camper at the tournament he said, "I was pissed. P-I-S-T!"
Only at Skylemar.
