It’s Welcome Wednesday! We’ve been waiting for our new friends to arrive, and finally they’re here. Coming from across the US, plus Germany, Italy and China, we happily welcomed some terrific campers for the second half of the season.
It’s a super happy vibe here at Skylemar, with so much positive energy in the air. Sure, things aren’t always perfect, but if you saw the Rec Hall at dinner tonight you’d understand. Older guys help the little ones at the salad bar. When the meal’s done the young guys sort of hang all over the 15-year-olds. On the porch, kids of all ages play checkers. During an announcement “shout-out”, everyone cheers, no matter who it’s for. Awesome to watch.
Clinic Signups after dinner, once all were here. This time we gathered on the Hillside with our Golden Tickets, and enjoyed a wide variety of Clinic Commercials. Hot Shot Basketball is a skills challenge. They’ll work on dribbling, passing and shooting. Offensive and Defensive Lacrosse is full equipment, and the five lacrosse counselors will set the bar high. 3-on-3 Hockey sounds fun; then again, so does Sailing and Championship Tennis.
The Wicked Witch of the North came to present The Melting Clinic. The witch turned into Holly, who explained that at Yellowhorn they’d be melting all kinds of ingredients to make bubble gum and chapstick. Something Fishy at Hilltop is all about fish art. They’ll paint giant fish, make wire fish sculptures that use micah found at the waterfront for scales.
There’s lots to make at the Outdoor Cooking Clinic. Everything will be cooked over the open fire using a pan and dutch oven. The Quidditch Cup commercial was really great, especially when the live yellow “Snitch” came out and ran around. Short game for Golf. They’ll work on chipping and putting.
H20front will combine jumping off the pontoon and the inflatables with competitive swim training. Waterskiing is a Try Anything Behind The Boat. The name explains it all. Sports Nut Reading With Shep had some excellent costuming. Photography is new for this week, and will include a scavenger hunt and the chance to use some brand new cameras.
Lights Camera Action is movie making. Together they’ll make a short film, and learn about editing and after effects. Insanity Bootcamp Fitness sounds like an amazing work out. Total Baseball will include individualized attention in hitting and defense. There’s Soccer Goalkeeping and Volleyball Doubles Tournament. RopesCraft sounds really interesting. You climb up into the trees while on belay and drop colored paint onto a giant white tarp.
It’s so hard to choose!
It was a Welcome Fire at The Ring of Champions for Evening Activity. Skits, songs, guitar solos, Adventure Man and S’mores. Afterwards, Adventure Woman gave out supplies for cabin welcome parties. Looking forward to the start of the second half of the season tomorrow!
