The Rec Hall erupts in an ecstatic breakfast chant:
“ONE MORE DAY!”
“ONE MORE DAY!”
It’s fast approaching - the most important night of the year, ELECTIONS, kicking off Saturday's start to the greatest competition of all time - COLOR WAR 2019! It’s what so many have been patiently waiting for. The kids have been talking about it since Opening Day.
But until then… it’s day of “lasts”, but only for this year. Seems wacky, but we already have things on the schedule for Skylemar 2020.
It was our last chance for this summer to show the community that it’s Cool2Care. Sky 1.5 (Bunks 20-23) tackled a major cleanup project for Willard Beach in South Portland. It’s a beach with lots of potential, as long as the trash was picked up. Thanks to our amazing guys, the job is done.
Bunk 1 had the final Sky Pines of the season. They had an amazing time with Brett and Paige, learning about the great outdoors. Dinner over the open fire was as delicious as always.
Bunk 7 had their chance to make the SkyleSnack with Marley. That’s when you get to prepare a healthy snack for the whole camp to have just before 6th period. Today was a smoothie, which the kids have decided is the best way to sneak in some vegetables.
Sky II had the final Snorkeling this morning, and they took along the GoPro. Once again, you can see how clear the water is. It’s fascinating to see the underwater world of Trickey Pond. After they dried off, it was time for a POW: knot-tying - definitely a skill that will come in handy.
Cory wrapped up the Ring of Champions with a Greatest Hits Campfire. Ask the boys about the really fun songs, like “60’s Party”, “Hey, Taco” and “Aristashaw”. Barney did his “Thank-You Notes” skit and helped Cory with the one about a mama deer. She gets everyone quiet… shhhhh... “It’s almost time… be very quiet and don’t move so we can hear the baby deer calling for his mother….” Then from the woods we hear a shout of, “Hey, Mom!” Of course, it’s a “you-had-to-be-there” kind of thing, but it was really funny.
Another funny part was the visit from Adventure Man. Emily had given him a gift: a can of "instant underpants". Keep in mind…boy humor. Anyway, the label said to just wet the contents and the underwear would “grow”. Someone in the audience tried spraying it with a super soaker, but nothing happened. Then a counselor got the hose and totally drenched Adventure Man too. Still, nothing happened. So now the cube of underwear is sitting in a tub of water and we’ll see how it turns out in the morning.
It was the last social for our Bunks 16-19, at least until next summer. You never know though. We’ve heard about a couple of our camp parents who actually met at a social once upon a time.
It was the annual Late-Night Ping Pong and Pizza Tournament for Sky II. It’s a great time, and especially awesome to just hang out with the best friends in the world.
Heard this today…
On the phone: “No, mom. Would you pa-leeease listen to me? It’s Color War, not Color Wars. Ok?”
(written with permission from a camper who knows what he's talking about)
Only at Skylemar.
