No roosters around here, but there were plenty awake at the crack of dawn. Balls were bouncing and legs were running long before the guys at Sky II even thought about getting up. Finally – the first official real day of Camp Skylemar 2019!
Baseball, hockey, ropes course, golf! Tennis, football, hoops and fishing! Gaga, lacrosse, volleyball and archery! Of course there was Hilltop, Yellowhorn, Buoy Ball, STB and Level Up – more on these later.
Clinic Sign-ups for the third period. That’s when the whole camp gathers in the Picnic Grove, and counselors do “commercials” to advertise what they’re offering for their Clinic that week. The commercials are super fun skits, that get the guys psyched for what’s being offered.
It’s a wide range of choices, covering competitive sports to unique activities. For example, there was SkyHoops Shooting, Intercamp Football and Baseball Scouting (for base-path speed, batting power and throwing accuracy). Then there was Camping 101, which covers setting up a tent, building a fire and outdoor cooking. The Giant Marble Run Making, Stand Up Paddle Board Adventures and Rock Wall Climbing all sounded amazing.
There was Soccer Shot with counselor Barko in the net, Ted’s Aaaaah Tennis Clinic focusing on serves and returns, Hockey Fundamentals, SkyLax Ankle-breakers (dodging/shooting) and Golden Club Golf – so hard to choose. There was Ash’s Dangerous Clinic, with unique activities like model airplane building, secret code communicating and old-fashioned marbles. Shep’s Reading Clinic sounded like a great way to relax with a good book in hand (or the one you have to read for school). Anything Goes at Hilltop means bracelet and t-shirt making, as well as painting and sculpture. SkyDeck was available for the older guys only. They’ll practice Southeast Asian cooking while learning about the culture and history of the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam. How’s that for a summer camp experience?
At Level Up, our fitness and workout program, you’ll train like the pros. Of course, there’s lots to do at the lake, featuring Splish Splash (swimming for fun on the giant inflatables) as well as endurance swimming (72 lengths equal a mile). To the right of the swim area, you’ll find the SkiDawgs, our incredible waterskiing and wakesurfing staff. These Dawgs are known for teaching new tricks.
So many fantastic choices, that you can’t go wrong. All you have to do is give your “golden ticket” (a yellow card with your name on it) to the counselor running the specific clinic and then you’re signed up. Clinic’s a week-long commitment and we’re excited to start!
Heard this today…
Ben G went out of his way to introduce himself to PapPap, Shep’s 88 year old father. Counselor Adam said, “Wow, that was really nice of you to take the time to do that, Ben”. Ben replied, “There’s always enough time for kindness.”
Only at Skylemar.
