Surprise! It’s Laser Tag Day! Giant air-filled obstacles filled Hejduk Field at Sky II. Each age group had their assigned time to play some Orange vs Green. The boys love this.
Another happy time this evening was our Brother Sister Dinner. 75 beautiful ladies graced Skylemar with a visit, playing tennis, ping pong and mini-golf with their well-mannered brother. The boys were really terrific about doing their best to see that their sister had a good time. This included stopping inside to see the Skylemar dogs.
Congratulations to Orlando, who caught the first fish of his life. And congrats to Josh B (B22) who won "the jersey off of Cody's back", for being an all-around good person who tries hard in football and goes out of his way to care for camp. Ben K won it last time.
Remember the Pine Cone Auction? Well tonight was the payoff for Bunks 1-19. Each cabin had their own special party in a unique location with Sr Staffers. For example, George taught Bunk 15 how to grill their own hot dogs and sausage down near the Maintenance Barn. Bunk 8 played yard games and watched a movie shown on the inside of the Big Top tent. One group hung out in Mitch’s Programming Office and designed tomorrow’s schedule. Some were in the Video Studio, Chocolate Factory, The Shack, Ring of Champions, Counselor Lounge, Green Cabin, Sky Deck, Lodge and so forth. There was a Tennis Party with Ted, Marge and Riley, complete with strawberries and cream. The "Bunk 71" Party is said to be “the best”. The kids go by motorboat, to a private cabin with its own beach across the lake. They swim for a while and then get to go with Aaron for ice cream in Naples at Poochie’s Causeway Dairy Bar. Five stars!
Bunk 18 had the Office Party. They learned to use a phone with a cord that’s attached to a box with numbers on it. That would be a regular old three-line phone with a hold button, as opposed to the iPhone that they’re accustomed to. They were very interested in practicing phone etiquette, and even got to answer a live call from Alexander H’s mother (sorry about that, Chrisette…) Also fascinating to them was that you didn’t have to hit “send”, and there’s something called a “busy signal” that makes an annoying sound.
Next they tried the copy machine. Everyone got to copy their hand – isn’t that what a boy needs to do at least once in life? The “After Party” included sneaking into the big kitchen and seeing how the industrial dishwasher worked. They checked out the walk-in freezer, and found themselves some Italian Ice. Towards the end was a heartwarming round of “Roses and Thorns”. That’s when we sit on the floor and each person gets to say two things they like and one that they don’t. Several mentioned “roses” like being at camp, being with friends and seeing their parents yesterday. The only “thorns’ the guys mentioned had to do with camp ending.
Heard this today…
“Whoever said diamonds are a girl’s best friend didn’t have a dog,” said Jared F’s sister, while cuddling with Cubbie, Trix and Moose.
Only at Skylemar.
