There was enough love in the air to fly to the moon and back. Even those unable to attend were here in spirit, sending equal amounts of this magic potion that matters most in life.
From Maine to Spain (and at least a dozen states in between), parents made their way to 457 Sebago Road, to spend the day with their amazing young man. Fact is, every child should have the opportunity to miss their parents and then be reunited with a giant hug. There simply is nothing better.
We basically followed our routine schedule, except with an extra 250 people around. By the end, our visitors looked tuckered out and ready for a nap. Several remarked that they can’t believe we have the stamina to do this every day.
For most it was a phenomenal, fantastic, spectacular day. It was also extremely emotional, and for a few, Visiting Half-Day would have been a better idea. It’s sometimes hard for a growing boy to compartmentalize his feelings.
Thank you to the many who made the tremendous effort to be here today. If you weren’t able to make it, not to worry. Rest assured your son was well taken care of by our staff and every single parent who came. The Skylemar family always looks out for their own.
If you had a teary farewell, not to worry too. Every tear was dried by 5pm dinner. Honest! From there we went right into Intercollegiate Day songs and cheers practice, and then on to…
CARNIVAL! Each cabin had a booth, like football toss, skee-ball, flying chicken, pop-a-shot, the dunking booth and lots more. The Bunksters served snow cones and the kitchen staff made fried dough. But the twist was you had to “dance for your dough”, while our fabulous and exhausted culinary team cheered.
All are tucked snuggly in bed, probably dreaming they are in Candy Land. Wonder where that vision would have come from?
Heard it today…
Nico, age nine, asked to come to Skylemar for his birthday present. From our point of view, he’s the best gift of all.
Only at Skylemar.
