Trickey Pond was filled with Polar Bears at 7am this morning. 31, to be exact. The bears, along with a boat patrol and crew of lifeguards, swam across the lake. That’s an accomplishment to be proud of.
Clinic Signup was another success. Exciting choices for this week include: "Splish Splash" at the H2Ofront, "Games of the Gridiron", "Downtown Basketball Shooting", "American Ninja Monster Challenge" at the Ropes Course, "Baseball Hitting", "Long Drive Golf", "Tennis Tourney Play", "Agility Training", "15U Lax Prep", "Hockey Offense/Defense", and "Show-Off Skiing".
You can make bracelets at the sail dock with "Bracelets and Boating"...or try "Volcano Building and Fossil Making" at Yellowhorn. Shep’s "Backlot Tour" takes you behind the scenes at Skylemar, like into the Maintenance Barn and Big Kitchen. Of course the most popular is "Dessert Making" at the SkyDeck.
The choice is always difficult, but this time especially. You’re coming Saturday, and we want to show off!
Intercamp update: We won both 14U hockey games, with goals scored by Jack B, Charlie S and Ty Mrcls. Jack Q brought home one win with an OT game-winner. In a 12U soccer round-robin, we went 1-2 in three hard-fought contests. Jaime scored three goals to lead the way, despite being the youngest on the field.
On the SkyLinks, Nate Z received the Golden Golf Club Award for perseverance, dedication and performance. Congratulations, Nate! At the Naples Country Club, AJ "pured" his 2nd shot from 150 yards out, sticking it 2' from the pin for a tap-in birdie...very impressive!
Fishermen, ahoy! Bunk 22 had a great time at SkyPines fishing this afternoon. Hunter caught 5, Sam W got 4, and Sam G hooked 2. Wonder if it was actually 11 fish total, or was it the same ones getting caught over and over.
Maiden voyage for the Giant Swing! It’s built into the challenge course, and bridges the gap between low-rope team building and high-rope independence. You put on all kinds of safety equipment and climb the ladder. Your friends below form a line and pull your rope back, back, back, until you say “stop”. That pulling can raise you 30’ high in the air. When you say “go”, they let go and away you fly. It’s exhilarating!
Special guest in the SkyDeck today. It was Victor, Skylemar's good friend from China. Through him, we've welcomed Bowen, Erid, George X, Leo J and Oscar X to Skylemar. Today Victor taught bunkmates how to make delicious Chinese dumplings. The samples were fabulous!
Drive-In Movie for Evening Activity. It’s a giant outdoor screen, surrounded by tiki torches. The kids sat on the hillside, with snacks in hand. It’s an awesome sight to see the camp all together at these times. Everyone sits generally by bunk but basically wherever they want. The older guys love the younger ones and vice versa. If we could just bottle these moments…
