Clear sunny skies and warm pleasant temps! That’s how we like it!
The waterfront was the place to be, but first there were a few things to take care of. Today’s a Great American Cleanup, also known as GACU.
GACU starts with transferring dirty clothes from the bongo to specially made laundry bags which are kind of like suitcases. It’s a Super Inspection day, when sheets are changed and the cabin is really, really cleaned. Once you pass, there are three stations to go to. First is the showers. Second is the infirmary for a health check. Third is the Skylemar Spa.
The Spa is run by our devoted Bunksters, who go above and beyond the call of duty. Without a single complaint, they trimmed 2,000 fingernails and soaked/clipped 2,000 toenails. Yucky, but the boys were extremely appreciative.
Clinic Signups in the Picnic Grove. On tap for this week is "Sports Broadcasting" (learn to announce play by play, produce highlight packages, master interviewing techniques), "Golf Long Game/Short Game", "U15 Lax Practice", "Tennis Tournament Training", "Reading Roadtrip" (reading all over camp), "Baseball Pitching & Catching", "#HOT" (fire building), "Pirate Sailing", "Castle Making" (scenery and props for our upcoming play “Beauty & the Beast”), "Handball", "Lifting Techniques" (for those over 13), "Soccer Kix", "Volleyball Hitting & Digging". "Drop It Like It’s Hot" takes place on the ropes course. It’s when you climb up high and drop funny things to see what happens, like a watermelon and eggs. SkyDeck’s "Ancient Civilization Cooking" will explore the foods of Africa, Greece, Rome and China. The "Never Ever Ski & Wakeboard" clinic is the perfect time to try.
Several awards were announced today. Corbin B won the “Sweet-spot Challenge” at Golf. Pepe received a "gold" golf ball for sportsmanship and etiquette. Eli R won the hat off of Nick Shep’s head. Literally. If you do an amazing job at skiing and never give up, you might end up with a piece of his hat collection.
When it comes to recognition, there’s never a shortage at a Skylemar Talent Show. 30 brave campers sang, danced and performed in front of a packed house. The audience was respectful and supportive, and the oldest guys in the back of the room did a great job of setting the tone. Lots of cheers and standing ovations for Cosme (danced), Lane (karate), Tosh & Alex B (lax tricks), Andrew B (lip-sync), Dylan M (card tricks), Zane R & Isaac G (sang), Daniel S & Ben B (jokes), Leo S (Breakdancing Grandmas), Joey, Holden and Josh B (rubics cubes), Noah C (keyboard song which he composed), Eli K and Henry D (magic tricks), Sam S (sang “Riptide”), Andrew L (belly drumming), Harry H (dog barking), Aidan K (violin), Noah P (leg farts), Harry & Will (sang “Mercy”), Jack C & Alex B and Alex N (sang), Ethan F (played ukulele & sang), Leo F (sang “Let It Go”), Jordan B (magic tricks) and Jed L (sang “Drops of Jupiter). These guys were incredible, and so were our MC’s Breezy and LT.
On the way back to the cabin, Blake S said, “I can’t wait for tomorrow. No reason – I just can’t wait”. We agree!
