It’s Alumni Day, with over 50 visiting. It was a casual day of camaraderie, plus a very intense street hockey game. Lots of alum dads with boys of camp age attending. Eddie “Irish” Horowitz was a camper at Skylemar our very first year. He returned with his son Jeff "Irish", in time for Visiting Day to see Jonathan “Little Irish” who lives in Bunk 1. Three generations! Alumni Day got us psyched for a big 70th anniversary celebration next year. Stay tuned for details.
Still chilly-ish today, but somehow most nevertheless went swimming. Lots of intercamp games, and a wide assortment of activities.
Impressive fact of the day: Isaac G is not only a Gold Glove winner for outstanding talent and passion in baseball, but he’s also one heck of a Belle.
The cast of “Beauty & The Beast” made a lot of people proud tonight: themselves, their parents, their friends, their counselors and Craig, Lee and Herb up in heaven. Of course, you know Lee and Herb; Craig was our much-loved drama director for over 40 years.
Suzie Hepker, our amazingly talented, beautiful-on-the-inside-and-out Director of Drama is the perfect teacher to carry on Craig’s legacy. She recognizes and understands the tremendous value of being on stage for a young boy (as do we!), especially when it comes to the big picture of life. Somehow in just two weeks she auditions, casts, rehearses, designs scenery and costumes, choreographs, and most importantly, develops talent. She does all of this within a schedule focused on sports, with lead performers who don’t show up for a rehearsal because of a baseball game. Despite ping pong balls in the background and goofing around back stage, Suzie never loses her temper. She juggles all of this, plus a long list of other things she does at camp, and somehow comes up with the greatest show on earth.
Tonight, it truly was the greatest show. “Beauty and The Beast” was the best production we’ve seen in many years. Congrats to Isaac G (Belle), Alexander S (Beast), Jack C (Gaston), Aiden K (LeFou), Jackson C (Cogsworth), Spencer S (Lumiere), Ty G (Mrs. Potts), and Leo F (Chip). Others in the play were Will S, Ben G, Dion and counselors. The large tech crew was supervised by camper Nate P. Cory and Mary were super helpful with the music, Diane and Maddie for the fabulous artwork. The Cast Party was well-deserved. Each of you was incredible, and we are grateful!
It’s hard to fall asleep tonight with so much excitement. Company’s coming tomorrow and we can’t wait!
