They chanted in the Rec Hall: “ONE MORE WEEK”. The buzz is starting to build. They’ve been talking about it all summer, and now it’s almost here.
But in the meantime, before it happens, let’s get ready. Maybe some training or perhaps a tune-up.
First things first. Get the body ready. That starts with GACU, the Great American Clean Up. Take a shower, see the nurse, trim nails, clean the cabin.
Next comes the Clinic Signup. It’s extra hard to decide which to pick because this is the last clinic week of the season. Is it best to train hard? Is it best to do something unrelated to keep the mind clear?
You know what we’re talking about of course. The most important five days of the summer is around the corner. Obviously…it’s almost COLOR WAR.
But there’s still a week to go. For now, the counselors offer Color War Tune-Ups in Basketball, Lacrosse, Football, Baseball and Golf. It’s an opportunity to really concentrate on one of these sports, in hopes that you’ll help your team to gain the edge.
There’s some “Last Chance” Clinics too. For instance, it’s your last chance to do the high elements of the Ropes Course, like the zip line and climbing wall. It’s also the last chance of 2016 to spend each day at the Ski Dock. There’s still time to drop a ski, get up slalom, try wakesurfing or master the wake-board.
Also on the lake are Olympic Time Trials of Trickey Pond. That’s a waterfront clinic for racing and breaking records. Lots of time to splash and play too. Video Boating is an exciting new option this week. You’ll sail with a Go Pro while a video drone flies overhead. Towards the end of the week you’ll put the footage together in a sailing movie.
“Campionship” Tennis, with competition in each age group. Street Hockey games, just to have fun. MP (Mission Possible) is a collegiate weightlifting workout, just for the older kids. Ultimate Bundle of Soccer is a new kind of game every day.
Yellowhorn Clinic offers a first in Skylemar history: Gigantic Marble Maze-Building. The goal is to build a five-foot tall “Rube Goldberg” sort of sculpture, which will be added to each year. Those with artistic challenge may select the Stage Design Clinic in preparation for our upcoming show, “Guys & Dolls”. They’ll paint scenery and create essential props.
There’s the Insanity Intense Workout, and Noah’s Camouflage Clinic. Noah’s crew will learn how to stalk wild animals in the woods. It’s a “Tour of Asia” for Skydeck. They’ll cover a different cooking style each day, from places like Thailand, China and Japan. Color War or not, Skydeck is always the most popular clinic.
We wrapped up the day with Laser Tag, Mixed Doubles Tennis with a girl's camp and Capture the Flag. Be prepared for a three-day sleep when your son returns.
