We thought today was so hot you could fry an egg on the sidewalk. So we tried it on a hockey rink. Not the same as a frying pan, and only the yolk got hard.
Nevertheless, it was hot enough for Wacky Water Wednesday. After sports in the morning, the rest of the day was spent in Trickey Pond, going down the water slide or playing games just a bit slower than usual. Ideal for fishing and snorkeling, as well as Sebago Lake State Park.
Those back from the Cannon Trip told tales of a great time. They took the tram to the top of the mountain, and enjoyed a spectacular view. A highlight was the roller coaster ride down Attitash Mountain. The rider controls the speed up to 25 miles per hour, through banked curves, dips and a helix.
The guys also really enjoyed Lost River Gorge and Boulder Caves. It’s a maze of steep-walled gorges and rugged boulder caves, guided by boardwalks. You can remain on the boardwalk, or accept the challenge of caving in the Dungeon or Lemon Squeezer.
The Boothbay guys had a fantastic time too. They went out to sea for seal watching and lobster fishing. After they pulled a lobster from the trap, it was time to eat one too. Mini golf, then s’mores by the campfire at the YMCA Camp Knickerbocker. The YMCA has kindly hosted Skylemar for more than 50 years in their rustic shelter.
In the morning they enjoyed a hearty homemade breakfast, and spent the day at the ocean of Reid State Park. Perfect weather makes for an ideal trip.
Winny, Mt. Washington and Quebec are out, once again leaving a small, relaxed group at camp. Evening Activity was Minute To Winit. Odd Bunks vs Evens for some really wacky competition.
First round was Checker Stacking. Without using your hands or mouth, the goal was to stack all eight. Next started with a blob of Vaseline on the nose. Goal was to move cotton balls into the bowl, using only your nose. The Wow Butter Toss was about tossing a ping pong ball onto your partner’s piece of bread. The cookie on the face and into the mouth race is always a hit because you get to eat the cookie. Final event was to turn your counselor into a mummy with a roll of toilet paper. Congratulations to winning counselor Alex K. You’re a mummy who makes your mommy proud.
