INTERCOLLEGIATE DAY 2016!
Four college teams: University of Maryland, Bucknell, Johns Hopkins and Syracuse. Counselors and Junior Counselors led the teams representing all age groups.
Campers competed throughout the day in skill competitions for accuracy, distance and speed. For instance, Basketball Free Throw was best of three shots. Eight people in camp had perfect scores; try doing that with 200 sets of eyes on you. Noah G, Max Silber, Spencer S, Hudson A, Josh S, Landon R, Gavyn P, Alex Ab.
At Baseball, Nick S had the first perfect score for throwing accuracy. There was the Football Punt (Gabe M was the star) and Soccer Shot. Soccer had little goals inside of big goals. Aidan K nailed the “money ball”, meaning not only did he get the ball in the little goal but the cone as well.
At the Hockey Shootout, Bennett R, Sam M, Jacob R, Soren, Luke U, Aidan, Teddy all hit the tough corner shot, awarding their teams extra points. In Lacrosse, each camper had three goals to make. Many got all three, like David R, Gavyn P, Josh B, Suds, Sam S, Ethan S, Jack S, Stevie, Akil, Oliver D.
Perfect score at the Ping Pong competition for Owen D, Henry D and Max B. Jack Bal, Danny R, Alexander S, Corbin, Charlie S, Bennett G, Joey M were especially strong at the Tennis Aim.
Fifty Yard Dash in each age group was exciting. Winners were Charlie S, Ethan H, Jalen and David R.
Afternoon would have been Swim Meet and Golf Drive, but lightning was seen in the distance, so canceled those two. Instead, more singing.
All the team practices paid off with a happy, fun and entertaining Songs and Cheers. Performance categories were Team Fight Song, Team Cheer, Old Camp Song, Original, Camp Cheer and Production Number.
Maryland’s Production Number was “Fight Night: A Celebration of Muhammad Ali”. Terrific solos by Geoff and Justin P, Matt and Justin I, Ethan F and Cash.
Hopkins did “The Lion King”. Alexander S and Spencer S were especially great. Solos also by Jack W, Jordan S, Levi and Ethan K.
Bucknell presented beautiful solos by the Mandel brothers, Blake, Jared and Tyler M on guitar. It was “The Evolution of Miley Cyrus” for them.
Syracuse had several wonderful soloists: Suds, the Blocks, Jed and Cooper and the Snyder Bros. They also had four campers on the team with dads who went to both Skylemar and Syracuse, who sang beautifully. Their Production Number was “The Jackson Five”.
The judges had an extremely difficult job, and the whole camp cheered and chanted while they deliberated. The scores were tallied, and the winner is…..Bucknell!!!!
