Rise and shine and swim across the lake! These are the Skylemar Polar Bears!
60+ campers (about 30 per day), along with the entire waterfront staff, made their way down to Trickey Pond before breakfast. With counselors swimming and boating next to each camper, the brave swimmers took the half-mile challenge.
It’s a very different feeling to swim in the middle of a body of water as opposed to along the shore line. Definitely harder than one thinks. With an encouraging counselor by your side and always a kayak to hang on to, everyone is successful. The donuts waiting at Bunk 71 on the other side (the Fink’s house) were a happy surprise too.
Strong competition at intercamp games this afternoon. 12U Lacrosse, 14U Basketball, 10U Hockey and 15U Volleyball. Intercamps are open to everyone, and you simply need to sign up a few days before.
We were proud to be the champions of a 12U lax tournament. Scores were 6-2 and 5-2. Bosco, from Spain, played in his first game ever, and even scored two goals. Aidan F (from Wisconsin) was Skylemar’s MVP. 14U hoops went 1 and 1, and we lost by 8 in the championship. Shout-outs to Jalen, Shuey and Akil. Also, AJ, QB, Jack’s B and G.
The Drive-In Movie was perfect for the hot night. Overheard Noah, Callum and Max P talking about Skylemar movie night being a favorite. “It’s really cool 'cause the whole camp’s together and you can sit with whoever you want no matter how old they are.”
Here’s a couple “Cool 2 Cares” caught today:
Levi K joined the “gluten free” cooking clinic so that when he gets home he can make food for his brother.
Eight-year-old Isaac C took the last pack of Sour Patch Kids at the movie concession stand, and the boy after him asked if there were any more. The counselor said no, and Isaac said, “here, you can take these”.
It’s the little things that make life beautiful.
